The UK Government announced on 1st July 2025, a full-scale review of the parental leave and pay system. This initiative will examine all aspects of the current framework, including maternity leave, paternity leave, parental leave, shared parental leave, adoption leave, and other related entitlements.
The terms of reference for the review have been published, outlining its scope and objectives. As part of the process, the government has issued an open call for evidence to assess how well the current system meets it’s intended goals and to gather insights from stakeholders and the public.
The initial call for evidence, which will remain open until 26th August 2025, is designed to ensure the review focuses on the most relevant and impactful issues. The review is expected to conclude with a report of findings and recommendations in January 2027.
