Happy 1^st Year Anniversary to the Employment Rights Bill

It is hard to believe we have now approached a year since the Employment Rights Bill was introduced. The Employment Rights Bill was first introduced to Parliament on 10th October 2024. The original version was 158 pages long, the latest version is 330 pages long.

The Bill has seen massive changes since the Bill was originally published.

The Final Lords vote is scheduled for 28th October 2025, with Royal Assent expected in November this year.

Measures to take effect “at Royal Assent or soon afterwards” include:

• Repeal of the Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Act 2023

• Repeal of the great majority of the Trade Union Act 2016 (some provisions will be repealed at a later date through a commencement order)

• Removing the 10-year ballot requirement for union political funds

• Simplifying industrial action notices and ballot notices

• Protections against dismissal for taking industrial action.
