Keeping children safe in education proposed revisions 2026
The Department for Education has launched a public consultation on the proposed updates to Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2026.
The consultation invites views on revisions to the statutory safeguarding guidance for schools and colleges in England, ahead of planned implementation in September 2026. Key proposals include strengthened guidance on child sexual abuse and exploitation, serious violence and grooming, improved information‑sharing between agencies, expectations around mobile phone use, and safeguarding considerations for children who are questioning their gender. New sections also cover facilities and activities.
The consultation is open until 22 April 2026 and provides an important opportunity for safeguarding professionals to help shape future statutory guidance.
