World Suicide Prevention Day was marked on the 10th of September 2025
This year’s global theme, set by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), is “Changing the Narrative on Suicide” with a clear and powerful call to action: “Start the Conversation”
The statistics are sobering. According to Samaritans >> every 90 minutes, someone in the UK or Ireland dies by suicide and 1 in 4 of us has had suicidal thoughts.
If you’re concerned that someone you know may be having suicidal thoughts, reaching out and asking about their feelings can make a profound difference. Expressing genuine care by starting these conversations can be life-saving, even if it feels daunting.
To support you with these conversations, we have gathered a selection of valuable resources from Mental Health First Aid England >> and Papyrus >> — Prevention of Young Suicide.
These materials are designed to empower you and your team to recognise the warning signs, initiate open discussions, and contribute to building workplaces where suicide is no longer a taboo topic.
