Updated School Code of Conduct for 2026

Keeping policies up to date is an important part of ensuring schools remain aligned with current safeguarding requirements, legislative developments and emerging workplace risks. Following a review of recent changes, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2026, HR Connect has published an updated version of its model Code of Conduct for Schools and Academies.

A key focus of this year's review has been ensuring the Code reflects the changing environment in which school staff work. This includes a new section on harassment, sexual harassment and third-party harassment, reinforcing expectations around professional conduct, respectful working relationships and creating a workplace culture where concerns can be raised appropriately.

The review has also considered the growing role of technology within schools. New provisions have been introduced regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), highlighting the importance of confidentiality, safeguarding, data protection and professional accountability when using AI-supported tools. In addition, sections relating to online safety, social media and digital communications have been updated to reflect evolving safeguarding risks and the importance of maintaining appropriate professional boundaries, both online and offline.

The updated Code continues to provide a clear framework for the standards of conduct and behaviour expected of school employees whilst reflecting current guidance and emerging areas of risk facing the education sector.
