Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
You can rely on HR Connect for all your HR needs.
EDI is integral to the success and wellbeing of our society and should be ingrained in every part of every school. Having a safe learning environment for staff and students that celebrates diversity and raises aspirations is a key priority for all school leaders.

A great starting point is to create or incorporate EDI into your School’s vision statement, which will drive your strategy and operational plans. Your vision should describe where your School wants to incorporate equality, diversity and inclusion; the culture, aims, aspirations and goals.
Data is a key factor into every EDI journey, and can support in determining where your School currently is on their journey, this information will enable you to identify the issues that are most relevant now to your staff and students. This information will help you evolve your strategy and incorporate plans and actions to bring about the changes identified in your vision, in partnership with your staff.
Key to implementing your EDI strategy is to ensure that this is supported by your Governing Body or Trust Board and driven by your senior leadership team. Ensure that there are realistic targets, that identify what progress is, and how this will be measured, who is accountable and responsible for what actions. These actions should then be cascaded throughout your School / Academy and included in staff action and development plans. Ensure that your vision, objectives and actions are inspiring, engaging and in line with your key priorities to enable the success of your strategy.
Action plans for staff should consider the whole work lifecycle, including recruitment, personal development, promotion and involvement. Many organisations start their EDI journey by identifying notable dates celebrated by their employees, and diverse groups within their local community, such as religious festivals and plan activities around these date. This can then be incorporated into whole school assemblies, and incorporated into the curriculum. Additionally this provides opportunities for the whole school community to recognise and celebrate diversity, educate, and build leaders confidence when talking about EDI..
