New Support for Governors from Staff Care Services Support Line

The role of the governor can be both hard work and incredibly rewarding, with many of our very own colleagues in Staff Care Services and HR Connect taking on this voluntary position to support school governance. However, like any position of leadership or governance in education, it comes with its own pressures and as a volunteer role the impact on the individual can be overlooked.

Whilst most studies and survey’s about wellbeing and mental health of adults in school focus on headteachers, SLT groups, teachers and the wider staff base, there is very little evidence to suggest the wellbeing of Governors is being taken seriously, even though the National Governance Association (NGA) reported that 30% of Governors were considering leaving their role in 2024, an increase of 13% from the year before.

At Staff Care Services we have always strived to ensure everyone involved in supporting the success of a school is helped along the way, recognising how important but also how stressful the role of the Governor can be.

So, we are proud to now offer a range of mental health and wellbeing support to Governors FOR FREE as part of our Support Line EAP package to schools. This includes a 24/7 telephone line, legal and medical advice, crisis text support and a library of digital wellbeing and mental health information.

If your school already purchases a Support Line contract, then there is nothing you need to do other than tell your governors! The support is available immediately and can be shared with your Governing body to make use of straight away. To find out more about what’s available you can visit our Support Line webpage >> or email supportline@staffcareservices.org.uk to request a welcome pack containing posters and information to share in school.
